Matt Jansen played for Carlisle United, Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and England Under-21s. Rated one of the most exciting attacking footballers of his era, he was coveted by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, and became a legend at Blackburn who he helped to promotion in 2001 and the League Cup in 2002. He was on the brink of full England honours, illness costing him his first cap and then, after being narrowly overlooked for the 2002 World Cup squad, a road accident on holiday in Rome derailed his career. He later moved into coaching and had a successful spell as manager of non-league side Chorley.
